Seasonal Flower in Rainy Season

(Wa-zou-ban flowers in rainy season. Very rare to see Purple colored Wahso in Rangoon.) Especially flowering in the rainy season, Wa-zou-ban (herbaceous plants) are sold every corner of the market. People love to buy them, and offered at their household shrines. Its color was mixed with white and orange. It looks like a bell, and hung beautifully by its pattern. Bearing purple blossoms was a rare to see in Rangoon, we can call it ‘country Wa-zou-ban’. (Wa-zou-bans are popular and have best attraction in the market place.) Wa-zou-bans are easy to plant in the garden. Its stem can be grown naturally in the soil. We can plant again and again their stems, and it will grow, and increase in the next rainy season, or sometimes it quickly blossoms if it gets water enough. (Easy to grow in the garden.)

A Visit To The Shwedagon Pagoda

(Still crowded, and crowded at the pagoda platform whether it rained heavily or under the bad weather.) People visited to the Shwedagon Pagoda frequently. Paying respect at the foot of the pagoda is one of the ways of Buddhist life. People crowded at the Pagoda platform every time we visited. Practice meditation, offering flowers, candles, incenses or colorful things, or walking on the pagoda platform mostly as keeping the Shwedagon Pagoda at the right side, or praying, etc that Buddhists usually do. (Watering stupa, and mythical symbol, at the birthday corner.) When I was young, I went to the Shwedagon pagoda with my friends the time final examination finished. The Night She Rest In Peace; Longing for a Burmese Poet – Kyi Aye

(Kyi Aye (13th December 1929 – 2016)) (A photo of Kyi Aye (left), and the sketch of her (right), the artist – unknown) A very rare woman poet in Burma, Kyi Aye, an old friend of my grandparents, once lived together at Aye-Yeik-Tha in the year around 1950. She was at that time, a Rangoon University student attending a bachelor of arts. She later studied at University of Medicine, and became a doctor. My grandma and she were closed friends. Grandma admired her because of her strong ambition in the education, and her beautiful literary works and her own successful household life with 8 children (including a pair of twins.). Grandma and she discussed about literature for a long time until she left Burma (1970?). Kyi Aye had been already writing poems and romance since her high school. Her romantic poems were famous for not only her writings, but also for the artistic feelings themselves. Cartoon Festival in U Ba Gyan Street

U Ba Gyan, Burmese Cartoonist (1902 – 1953) U Ba Gyan was a famous Burmese cartoonist of all time. If he were still alive, he might be now a hundred and eleven years old. He was wise and learned and above all was gifted with irrespressible wit and humour. He dared to point out the way of sanity and better judgment. He always declared that he drew cartoons for the country, not for money. He never worked as government servant, because if he accepted, he believed he could not have better judgment for the country. Retold Version and Original Novel

(When I was a young reader, my grandparents bought many retold versions of popular classic for us to practice our reading.) I was familiar with the retold series or simplified texts which provide a step-by-step approach to the joys of reading for pleasure and a wide variety of enjoyable reading material for all learners of English. Those retold versions of popular classic and contemporary titles, as well as specially written stories, published at five or six levels such as from the beginner to the Upper. About 300 or 600 basic words for the beginner and about 2500 to 3000 words for the Upper or Advanced. When I was a young reader, my grandparents bought many retold versions of popular classic for us to practice our reading. They also explained some difficult words in the story. Seasonal Flowers, and Bonus Flowers in the Summer 2015

This summer is so hot and there was a hardful warning to everyone from the daily weather report. It said ultraviolet rays have now high radiation. It was dangerous if we were going outside between 11am and 3pm. But wait! There were beautiful nature beauties await us. The seasonal flowers called Kankaw (Mesua Ferrea) blooming in this month. Kankaw flowers are everywhere in the market place, and women love to buy and wear on their head. I also love to buy some Kankaw flowers, and put at our household shrine. (Kankaw flowers in the garden.) Luckily, we met another bonus flowers blooming in this hard weather. This summer might be a lucky month. We met rain and thunder in this hottest month. The wind blew dangerously last few days, and people were afraid of the to-be-cyclone. But luckily the rain suddenly dropping, and the weather became cool.
