The Night She Rest In Peace; Longing for a Burmese Poet – Kyi Aye

(Kyi Aye (13th December 1929 – 2016)) (A photo of Kyi Aye (left), and the sketch of her (right), the artist – unknown) A very rare woman poet in Burma, Kyi Aye, an old friend of my grandparents, once lived together at Aye-Yeik-Tha in the year around 1950. She was at that time, a Rangoon University student attending a bachelor of arts. She later studied at University of Medicine, and became a doctor. My grandma and she were closed friends. Grandma admired her because of her strong ambition in the education, and her beautiful literary works and her own successful household life with 8 children (including a pair of twins.). Grandma and she discussed about literature for a long time until she left Burma (1970?). Kyi Aye had been already writing poems and romance since her high school. Her romantic poems were famous for not only her writings, but also for the artistic feelings themselves. 100th Anniversary of Burmese Cartoon in 2015

(U Bagalay (Shwe Ta Lay) , U Hain Zun, U Ba Gyan, and U Phay Thein.) 100th Anniversary of Burmese Cartoon in 2015 Early forms of cartoons art can be seen in the cave drawing. In Burma we could see the cave drawings, or the frescoes painted on the walls of the temples from old Bagan city. Because of those drawings as ancient inscriptions, we learnt the Buddha’s life, or the ancient history of the old king. Apart from the ancient stories, the comic art, or the terms comic and comic strips started in World War II at the Rangoon Time Newspaper in English, established in 1912. Burmese Cartoon Descends From Monkey? It was because of the first cartoon appeared as celebrating Christmas at the supplementary issue of the Rangoon Time Newspaper on the Christmas day of 1912. A Trip to Sit-Tway (Western Burma) (Myauk-U) Part (One)

I had a trip to Sit-Tway a year ago. Sit-Tway, is a district of the Rakhine State in western Burma. We planned to visit a town, called ‘Myauk-U’ - is a township of Myauk-U district in the Rakhine State of Burma. I have never been there before. The place was not secure for the visitors because of the Rakhine State riots. But at that time, the place Myauk-U was calm and safe. ( A beautiful view of Sit-Tway airport from the plane.) We started our trip by plane in the early afternoon for 50 minutes flying. When we arrived at sit-tway airport, a native friend welcomed us, and we all went to Myauk-U by car right away. There would be four-hour driving, and in the late evening, we would reach the place for our four days' visit. (A view from the car. Trees and roughy roads are everywhere.) (A famous Rakhine Food. A Memory of My Grandparents…. (U) Khin Maung Latt and (Daw) Khin Myo Chit

Their Brief Stories (My grandpa with a Traditional Burmese clothes in 1958-59.) (U) Khin Maung Latt (1915 – 1996), my grandfather, was an English teacher, already looked like a teacher. On his face there was something, which reminds one of Sherlock Holmes. If he wore a long coat with a cherrywood pipe in his mouth, he would be a living image of Sherlock Holmes. He never smoked, but he had once a habit of smoking cigar. I knew because I saw him smoking in the photograph. But I was told that he gave up smoking since we were born. He did not wish my twin brother to follow his smoking habit. (My grandpa had a habit of smoking cigar, I knew because I saw him smoking in the photograph.) My grandpa was a tall man in figure with a height of 5 feet 11. His smiling lips showed his kind and sympathy. 102 Years Today Grandma Was Born

(Grandma with old hair style.) 1st May of 1915, her birthday now comes. Grandpa was also born on the same year. So we held their 100th anniversary on 2015, and I wrote a book, ‘A Memory of My Grandparents’ and published successfully in 2015. (Here, successfully did not mean all books sold out. It only meant it comes out 1000 copies on time. By the way, the family was fully satisfied for my book appeared in time.). She had 3 brothers, and one sister, and she was the eldest. Grandma never mentioned about her mother whenever she talked about her family. It meant she did not love her mother. A Day at the Myanmar Cartoon‘s 100th Anniversary

A Day at the Myanmar Cartoon ‘ s 100 th Anniversary (MCC hall held 100th Anniversary of Myanmar Cartoon.) The first cartoon in Burma appeared as celebrating Christmas at the supplementary issue of the Rangoon Time Newspaper in English in 1912. The cartoonist signed as ‘Monkey’ at below. In 1915, the famous Burmese cartoonist, later became father of Burmese cartoons, U Bagalay drew in Yangon (Rangoon) Time Newspaper in English. We recalled this memory and marked the Christmas season of December of this year 2015 as 100 th Anniversary of Burmese cartoons. I seem to be always writing about myself, my dear readers? I hope someone who may read what I write will understand that these adventures contain a great deal about me. A Visit to Moe-Kaung Pagoda Festival

(From the 21st December to the 31st December 2018, Moe-Kaung Pagoda Festival was held.) Moe-Kaung pagoda at Yankin township, located in the northern part of Rangoon, where the pagoda festival was held in every December. As my grandma (Khin Myo Chit) wrote, ‘Every pagoda has an annual festival.’, this month is a month of Moe-Kaung pagoda festival. The festival stayed for a week, sometimes two weeks, so people could look forward to the days of enjoyment. (The place where the Moe-Kaung pagoda stands today. Seen behind the busy road, and trees.) The locality is a busy road with daily traffic and people around. There was a large estate of Moe-Kaung monastery near the Moe-Kaung Pagoda. Monks and lay devotees always care and do maintenance for the Pagoda. The season festival on every December always takes place in the Moe-Kaung pagoda ground.
