Seasonal Flower in Rainy Season

(Wa-zou-ban flowers in rainy season. Very rare to see Purple colored Wahso in Rangoon.) Especially flowering in the rainy season, Wa-zou-ban (herbaceous plants) are sold every corner of the market. People love to buy them, and offered at their household shrines. Its color was mixed with white and orange. It looks like a bell, and hung beautifully by its pattern. Bearing purple blossoms was a rare to see in Rangoon, we can call it ‘country Wa-zou-ban’. (Wa-zou-bans are popular and have best attraction in the market place.) Wa-zou-bans are easy to plant in the garden. Its stem can be grown naturally in the soil. We can plant again and again their stems, and it will grow, and increase in the next rainy season, or sometimes it quickly blossoms if it gets water enough. (Easy to grow in the garden.)

The Night She Rest In Peace; Longing for a Burmese Poet – Kyi Aye

(Kyi Aye (13th December 1929 – 2016)) (A photo of Kyi Aye (left), and the sketch of her (right), the artist – unknown) A very rare woman poet in Burma, Kyi Aye, an old friend of my grandparents, once lived together at Aye-Yeik-Tha in the year around 1950. She was at that time, a Rangoon University student attending a bachelor of arts. She later studied at University of Medicine, and became a doctor. My grandma and she were closed friends. Grandma admired her because of her strong ambition in the education, and her beautiful literary works and her own successful household life with 8 children (including a pair of twins.). Grandma and she discussed about literature for a long time until she left Burma (1970?). Kyi Aye had been already writing poems and romance since her high school. Her romantic poems were famous for not only her writings, but also for the artistic feelings themselves. Cartoon Festival in U Ba Gyan Street

U Ba Gyan, Burmese Cartoonist (1902 – 1953) U Ba Gyan was a famous Burmese cartoonist of all time. If he were still alive, he might be now a hundred and eleven years old. He was wise and learned and above all was gifted with irrespressible wit and humour. He dared to point out the way of sanity and better judgment. He always declared that he drew cartoons for the country, not for money. He never worked as government servant, because if he accepted, he believed he could not have better judgment for the country. Here, I proudly add that he and my grandparents were very friendly to each other. I was told that he always visited my grandparents’ house ‘Aye Yeik Tha’, and he often drew cartoons for my father. 100th Anniversary of Burmese Cartoon in 2015

(U Bagalay (Shwe Ta Lay) , U Hain Zun, U Ba Gyan, and U Phay Thein.) 100th Anniversary of Burmese Cartoon in 2015 Early forms of cartoons art can be seen in the cave drawing. In Burma we could see the cave drawings, or the frescoes painted on the walls of the temples from old Bagan city. Because of those drawings as ancient inscriptions, we learnt the Buddha’s life, or the ancient history of the old king. Apart from the ancient stories, the comic art, or the terms comic and comic strips started in World War II at the Rangoon Time Newspaper in English, established in 1912. A Visit To The Shwedagon Pagoda

(Still crowded, and crowded at the pagoda platform whether it rained heavily or under the bad weather.) People visited to the Shwedagon Pagoda frequently. Paying respect at the foot of the pagoda is one of the ways of Buddhist life. People crowded at the Pagoda platform every time we visited. Practice meditation, offering flowers, candles, incenses or colorful things, or walking on the pagoda platform mostly as keeping the Shwedagon Pagoda at the right side, or praying, etc that Buddhists usually do. (Watering stupa, and mythical symbol, at the birthday corner.) When I was young, I went to the Shwedagon pagoda with my friends the time final examination finished. A Life-Long Partner

(1985, My loving grandparents - U Khin Maung Latt, and (Daw) Khin Myo Chit (writer)) ‘Colourful Burma’ (1976) was my grandma’s famous book in the history of all time. The book was reprinted again and again until now. She wrote traditional Burmese styles, cultural things, and Buddhism in the book. Grandma used famous phrases, words from poems, and plays from English literature. She devoured English Literature since she was young. Although grandpa was an English teacher, he could not write as grandma do. But he helped grandma, and gave assistance whenever grandma needed. (The first edition of Colourful Burma 1976 (left), and second edition of Colourful Burma 1978 (right)) In 1996, ‘Burma’ and ‘Burmese’ were no longer permitted to use in our country. A Visit to Moe-Kaung Pagoda Festival

(From the 21st December to the 31st December 2018, Moe-Kaung Pagoda Festival was held.) Moe-Kaung pagoda at Yankin township, located in the northern part of Rangoon, where the pagoda festival was held in every December. As my grandma (Khin Myo Chit) wrote, ‘Every pagoda has an annual festival.’, this month is a month of Moe-Kaung pagoda festival. The festival stayed for a week, sometimes two weeks, so people could look forward to the days of enjoyment. (The place where the Moe-Kaung pagoda stands today. Seen behind the busy road, and trees.) The locality is a busy road with daily traffic and people around. There was a large estate of Moe-Kaung monastery near the Moe-Kaung Pagoda. Monks and lay devotees always care and do maintenance for the Pagoda. The season festival on every December always takes place in the Moe-Kaung pagoda ground. Book Review – ‘Quest for Peace’ by Khin Myo Chit

--> The collection of Khin Myo Chit’s articles from The Working People’s Daily newspaper in 1964 was now published from Parami publication. This is the first time publication in book form, of one of Khin Myo Chit’s masterpieces. Buddhist’s way of life, memoirs on Sunlun method of meditation, her life story in literary and in wartime, her social life included in this book, and it seemed become her own autobiography. There were 49 articles appeared, and her son, Dr.Khin Maung Win wrote the Preface for the book. It said that before the title ‘Quest for Peace’ was decided, there have been many titles. Her two admirers U Win Pe (Mya Zin), and Mrs Godwine argued between the two titles called ‘Many a House of life Hath Me’ and ‘House of Life’. But they thought those two titles should need explaination. So the simple title, ‘Quest for Peace’ was finally chosen, and the autobiography was serialized in the daily newspaper The Working People’s Daily in 1964. Here is the...
