A Visit To The Shwedagon Pagoda

(Still crowded, and crowded at the pagoda platform whether it rained heavily or under the bad weather.) People visited to the Shwedagon Pagoda frequently. Paying respect at the foot of the pagoda is one of the ways of Buddhist life. People crowded at the Pagoda platform every time we visited. Practice meditation, offering flowers, candles, incenses or colorful things, or walking on the pagoda platform mostly as keeping the Shwedagon Pagoda at the right side, or praying, etc that Buddhists usually do. One must be B.A degree, and the other M.A (English). When I was writing a book ‘A Memory of My Grandparents’, my mother was searching old photos for me. For her help, I could choose photos easily for what I was going to use, and had more time to think about them. Moreover, I could ask my father if I had to know about the photo. Look at these two photos again, my dear reader. Is it strange that the look of my grandfather in M.A gown was younger than of B.A gown? I thought B.A degree he obtained in 1947 when he was 32 years old, and M.A in 1951 when he was 36. So he must be younger in B.A degree. I was confused what I see. I asked my father about my thinking. The book –' Three Years Under the Japs' in English was first published in 1945. It was appeared after Japanese left Burma, was written by Khin Myo Chit; my grandmother. She wrote down her actual experiences during the 3 years of Japanese rule. As she wrote in the first page; she could afford to be frank and honest herself that she intended to give in the following pages her impressions and recollections of the last three years' nightmare. Page by page, we saw her story going through with Japanese regime. In the chapter of the nightmare journey from Monywa(Upper Burma) to Rangoon by train, she said it reminded her of the scene in the film 'Good Earth' which showed Chinese refugees boarding a similar train. What she read in books and saw in films of war were actually happening to her!After the nightmare journey, she wrote about the war prisoners in Rangoon were treated badly by the Japanese soldiers. (1985, My loving grandparents - U Khin Maung Latt, and (Daw) Khin Myo Chit (writer)) ‘Colourful Burma’ (1976) was my grandma’s famous book in the history of all time. The book was reprinted again and again until now. She wrote traditional Burmese styles, cultural things, and Buddhism in the book. Grandma used famous phrases, words from poems, and plays from English literature. She devoured English Literature since she was young. Although grandpa was an English teacher, he could not write as grandma do. But he helped grandma, and gave assistance whenever grandma needed. (The first edition of Colourful Burma 1976 (left), and second edition of Colourful Burma 1978 (right)) In 1996, ‘Burma’ and ‘Burmese’ were no longer permitted to use in our country. They had to be changed to ‘Myanmar’. At that time, I saw my grandparents were not happy for those changes. They did not want to change the name into ‘Myanmar’. A Visit to the Burmese Crafts Pwe (Festival)

(The entrance of the 'Made in Myanmar' festival.) The festival was held at Kandawgyi Lake, located east of the Shwedagon Pagoda. The Lake was approximately 5 miles (8 km) in circumference and had a depth of 20 to 45 inches. The 150 - acre lake, surrounded by the Kandawgyi Nature Park (110 - ace), and Yangon Zoological Gardens (approximately 70 - acre). (Credited to the free Encyclopedia.) One day, I was at the Book-buffet at Myanmar Book Centre opened for 3 days during a month of May this year. I had never seen such a Book-Buffet festival before. --> To my surprised, before choosing a book to buy, we had to buy a paper bag which cost ten thousand kyats or twenty thousand kyats, and then we put books inside the bag as much as we could. --> But I could not decide which bag I chose first, so I browsed the books, which were largely scattered on the three or four big tables.
