A Visit To The Shwedagon Pagoda

(Still crowded, and crowded at the pagoda platform whether it rained heavily or under the bad weather.) People visited to the Shwedagon Pagoda frequently. Paying respect at the foot of the pagoda is one of the ways of Buddhist life. People crowded at the Pagoda platform every time we visited. Practice meditation, offering flowers, candles, incenses or colorful things, or walking on the pagoda platform mostly as keeping the Shwedagon Pagoda at the right side, or praying, etc that Buddhists usually do. A Trip to Myauk-Oo (Sit-Tway, Western Burma) part (Six)

The return-walking never tired us. I could not help looking back the road I trod upon. It looked like a painting that I would like to draw when I be at home. ("When will I see all of You again,") (Country roads are all the same. They give us the smell of sand.) The next visit was to the Shaittaung Pagoda. It is a famous pagoda in Myauk Oo. The name also attracted to the visitor! 'Shaittaung' means '80,000' (eighty thousand). It represented 'Temple of 80,000 Buddha Images.' ‘Joy And Woe Are Woven Fine’

When the result came out, if you passed the examination, you are happy. But if you had failed the examination, how could you be happy? In Burmese popular prose as 'How could I be pleased while others are happy.' Sometimes, although you passed the examination, you are not happy because your friend had failed. How could you be entirely happy while your friends had failed? So, the happiness as I have told above, I am interested in second kind of happiness. One has to be happy for one's success. But one cannot be entirely happy although passed with credit while others had failed. So it was not good for showing one' happiness while others were in the state of misery. When my friend had failed the exam while I passed, I warned myself not to show my happiness before my friend. She or he would feel more miserable while others showed their joy a lot. The Act of Respectful Deed

In our Burmese custom, during the Thadingyut festival, young people brought foods, or cakes or gifts, and they offered in front of their teachers or adults, and paid respect. My grandpa was a teacher, and he received gifts, and respect from his students during the season. However he accepted gifts from his students, he preferred having being paid respect at not any gifts. His students did not satisfy what their teacher said. They wanted to bring cakes or foods, etc while they were coming to pay respect. ( Yes! I agreed! Their cakes were delicious! I did not understand why grandpa did not want to accept gifts .) (Young writers, and poets came and paid respect to my grandparents during Thadingyut season.) ...

Hledan Days The Dream Village That was once ‘Aung Chan Thar’ As the bus conductor calls out ‘Hledan bus stop’, one has only to get down and ask to be guided to Aung Chan Thar street, and you will be transported to a village in the centre of the city of Rangoon, like an oasis in the desert ,a world apart from the hubhub of city life around it. Only the occasional sound of cars and sirens reminds us that we are actually in the centre of the city. Even to the inhabitants of Aung Chan Thar, after a tour round the city, one feels like coming back the dreamland,a world apart. Seasonal Flower in Rainy Season

(Wa-zou-ban flowers in rainy season. Very rare to see Purple colored Wahso in Rangoon.) Especially flowering in the rainy season, Wa-zou-ban (herbaceous plants) are sold every corner of the market. People love to buy them, and offered at their household shrines. Its color was mixed with white and orange. It looks like a bell, and hung beautifully by its pattern. Bearing purple blossoms was a rare to see in Rangoon, we can call it ‘country Wa-zou-ban’. (Wa-zou-bans are popular and have best attraction in the market place.) Wa-zou-bans are easy to plant in the garden. Its stem can be grown naturally in the soil. We can plant again and again their stems, and it will grow, and increase in the next rainy season, or sometimes it quickly blossoms if it gets water enough. (Easy to grow in the garden.)

A Memory of My Grandparents (5) (U) Khin Maung Latt and (Daw) Khin Myo Chit (Writer of Colourful Burma)

Some Part of Their Life and Their Meeting (My grandparents in 1939.) My Grandfather (U) Khin Maung Latt (My grandfather with a smile.) While my grandfather was working as a clerk at Bombay Burma Company, towards the end of 1939 labour troubles grew. The workers of the Burma Oil Company, one of the leading British forms went on strikes. He took part in it although English government did not allow their government workers involved in the uprising. He was forced to quit because of his taking part in riot. Before long he joined the Workers’ Union. I always was heard from my grandpa that when he was working as a clerk in the British government company, they were not allowed the employees reading political books in the working hour. It meant that after the office hour, could read what they liked. Until he was married to my grandma in 1939, he did not get the degree yet. My grandma was not yet graduated too.
